Dinner at Doc Fords

October 28, 2014

The weather in SW Florida is FANTASTIC!  So what should one do? …  Head to the beach for dinner, of course!  Our pick was one of our favorites, Doc Fords Rum Bar and Grille on Ft. Myers Beach.

Doc Fords Restaurant

If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Doc Fords Rum Bar and Grille is named after a character in Randy Wayne White’s books, and Randy is one of the owners of Doc Fords.  There are three restaurant locations… Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva Island.  Randy White grew up just around the corner on Fort Myers Beach and his books are inspired by the area.

Doc Fords offers great Caribbean dishes and a wonderful atmosphere.  If you’re in that “beachy, I just want to hang out down by the water and have a good meal” type of mood, Doc Fords on Fort Myers Beach is where you’ll want to go.  It offers great views of the water, shrimp boats and marina.  Great place to kick back and enjoy.

It was sunset when we arrived.  The band was playing, there was a gentle tropical breeze and the twinkle lights were glowing.  It was time to settle in for a few drinks.  We ordered one of the local favorites…the Doc Fords Mojito and a glass of wine. (Pardon the grainy photos…forgot my camera and had to go with my phone for pics…but you still get the idea. 🙂

Before dinner, we started with some Gulf Shrimp (one of my favorites).

Paella and the Quinoa Salad with Shrimp were the picks for dinner. Both were delicious.

Our stomachs were full, we were relaxed, and it was time to head back to reality.    Before you leave, you can pick up a souvenir from your evening…one of Randy’s books or a Doc Fords T-Shirt maybe?  Love the T-shirts..especially that blue one!
